The Votes Are In
Voting has concluded now for the two motions that were presented to Members as part of the minutes of the September Board of Director's meeting: 94% of Members eligible to vote completed the online form, 87% of those Members voted to set road fees at $500 for 2021 ($250 for the two back-lots) and 67% voted to implement the additional security measure at the road entrance.
Please Pull Over (A Little More)
Given the additional traffic on the road this year due to more owners spending more time 'at the lake' the Board would ask that drivers coming in to their properties give the right of way, where possible, to drivers leaving - if there is an emergency, it would likely be that someone needs medical attention and would be headed to the hospital, so drivers on their way in should try their best to let drivers leaving have the right of way.
And logically folks with pick-ups / SUVs should give cars the right of way where possible given the added hazards to cars pulling off the road.
2020 Road Work - Phase 3
It's been a good year for the road. The majority of the 3.2 kilometres held up remarkably well right into the middle of September. The usual spots on the hills as well as the low areas susceptible to ponding and potholes did finally succumb to the additional traffic over the course of the season but thanks to removal of the nuggets, grading and ditching done in the late spring we all enjoyed a smooth journey in 2020. Again, thanks to Jack, Clem, Kyle and Charlie for their work on the road.
As outlined in the minutes of the September Board of Director's meeting that were emailed to everyone on September 27th, there are a couple of additional projects to implement on the road before the winter, after freeze-up and in the early spring:
- - Purchase sufficient gravel to remedy washouts, erosion, road nuggets, and older graveled road sections
- - Purchase pressure treated posts to install along both edges over the large culvert in the 'gut' to extend and raise the current road edging above the level of the road to reduce erosion; mark ends for visibility; install hoarding to solve the one area where storm water has eroded the ground under the existing retaining structure; purchase gravel to fix the eroded section and raise the road in the area of the culvert
- - Purchase pressure treated posts to install on the west side of the road along the edge of the beaver pond that was drained this spring to enable levelling of the roadbed and reduce erosion into the beaver pond; mark ends for visibility; purchase gravel to level the road in the area of the newly installed retaining structure
- - Once the pooled water has frozen this fall/winter on the west side of the road just inside the fence at the highway where there are currently a long clump of sumacs, cut the sumacs in order to improve visibility of traffic for drivers turning into and exiting Yarrow Lane; in the early spring of 2021 purchase sufficient rock / gravel to fill in the area where the sumacs were removed to provide a pull over area to allow vehicles to pass safely
- - Based on road conditions in the spring, improve ditching along sections of the road up from Hwy 7 and remove any additional large rocks from the roadbed that appear after the spring thaw
- - Improve existing pull over areas
- - Enable additional contouring of the road edges to direct storm water to the ditches and off the road surface, especially on hills
- - Provide sufficient funding to test a product designed to secure gravel on steep slopes
